La Trappe comes to Tad-Dutch at Qala

Qala's Piazza San Guzepp has 4-5 restaurants and bars and the impressive church. And one of the restaurants, now run by Mireille and Katia, boasts a new name and its not just the name thats new. But the name does give you a clue to what you will find inside. Mireille, the Chef at Tad-Dutch is from the Netherlands. And you will find a that Dutch influence in the dishes on offer and in the beer on offer. Tad-Dutch faces the front of the church. It is open from 6pm every day except Thursday. And Mireille also has a liking for good beer - and of course that has to mean a liking for Belgian Ales. Her favourite Belgian ale is the strong blond La Chouffe. She has even visited the little farmhouse brewery at Achouuffe in the Ardennes. Tad-Dutch has 3 Belgian ales on offer. Of course there is La Chouffe. This is complimented by Liefmans Fruitesse and Augustijn Donker. Fruitesse is Flemish brown ale with the addition of fruit juices during its maturation in casks at the brewery. Donker is in the Begian monastic dubbel style - dark and malty.

But customers asked you are Dutch but you dont have any Dutch beers! Well now she does. Tad Dutch now offers customers La Trappe from the Koningshoeven Brewery which is within the walls of the abbey Onze Lieve Vrouw van Koningshoeven in the Netherlands. uses the Abbeys uses "La Trappe" branding and has had a controversial history due to its involvement with commercial brewing companies and was stripped of its "TRAPPIST" status. But that is behind them them, they are a TRAPPIST brewery again and Tad Dutch has La Trappe Tripel .
